Violist Caroline Coade returns as a screening juror for the 2018 Primrose International Viola Competition, having judged the live rounds of the Competition in 2014. She is the third chair violist in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and was Assistant Principal for the 2013-2016 seasons. At the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, Ms. Coade is Assistant Professor of Viola, and Summer 2018 will mark her third summer as artist/faculty at the University of Michigan’s Center Stage Strings Institute. In the realm of chamber music, Ms. Coade is the Artistic Director for WRCJ 90.9FM’s Classical Brunch in Birmingham, Michigan. Ms. Coade holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory (Bachelor of Music), Curtis Institute (Artist Diploma), and Juilliard School (Master of Music). Her mentors include Karen Tuttle, Jeff Irvine, and Joyce Robbins. Ms. Coade performs on a Domenico Busan viola c. 1750 on loan from the Mandell Collection of Southern California.
